Boy A (2007)
Boy A is a 2007 British film adaptation of Jonathan Trigell's critically acclaimed novel of the same name. It is directed by John Crowley and stars Andrew Garfield (who won the 2008 Best Actor BAFTA TV Award for his performance).
Plot: Jack has spent most of his young life in juvenile institutions for the murder of another child. He is released into the world, with only his care worker to guide him. Jack is given a new name, a new job, a new home and a new life. But anonymity is both a blessing and a curse as Jack has to contend with keeping his past and the monstrous crime he committed as a minor, from the people he meets. |
Time Out, 19 October 2007, Review: Boy A
(...) the focus on the inner torment of the protagonists and the naturalistic shooting style lend the film a quality similar to the work of Mike Leigh, as the film effectively captures dark issues and personal suffering with haunting sensitivity. In all, a poignant realist drama that will leave a big emotional impression. |
